It’s a wrap: Recuro’s fourth year has come to an end

As the holiday season closes in, now is a good time to look back and reflect on the past year. In this article, current CEO Jonas Åström looks back at the year that has gone by. Petter Lorentzon, the incoming new CEO of Recuro, then looks at what 2024 might yield. 

Jonas looks back at 2023: What have we achieved? 

2023 started as a year of uncertainty: A complex macroeconomic environment, with the continued Russian aggression in Ukraine, inflation and a looming recession. Despite this, the year has developed well, both for Recuro and for our clients. As a testament to this, and our long-term growth, Recuro was named “Di Gasell”, as one of only 869 companies in Sweden this year.

Thanks to our clients – old and new

For many of our clients the focus turned to retention strategies. We’ve helped clients successfully implement these strategies, while also maintaining a healthy acquisition of new subscribers. Despite a tough economic climate, most of our clients have seen a top line growth in their subscription businesses. 

Three examples to highlight: 

  • Apps: Skippo has successfully relaunched their app “På Sjön” (boat navigation) in four markets with Recuro’s help. 
  • Media: Kvartal has grown explosively with the help of Recuro as their marketing/growth department. 
  • SaaS: PublicInsight has optimised their marketing engine now producing a healthy amount of leads for their sales team. 

All in all, we have helped clients add over 250,000 new subscribers during the year. We have increased our presence in our focus verticals Media, Apps and SaaS, while also starting to venture into verticals such as Charities and Impact. 

Partnering to build the Nordic subscription ecosystem

Throughout 2023 we have had great collaboration with our partners. While Recuro remains an independent advisor to our clients, our partners help us accelerate the subscription ecosystem in the Nordics. 

Here are a few example of our great partners throughout the year: 

  • Investors and Incubators: SSE Business Labs, SUP46, Dalarna Science Park, and more. 
  • Tech platforms: Tulo, Consent.ai, Recurly, Sesamy, Zuora, RevenueCat, Rule, Triggerbee, Upzelo, Prosperstack, and more. 
  • Knowledge and Courses: Breakit, Bonnier, Sveriges Tidskrifter, EFL Education, and more.

Team, team,team…

At the end of the day, it’s all about the people. Recuro now boasts a team of +10 consultants, with sole focus on subscription growth. We’re strategy consultants, CMOs and digital specialists. 

During 2023 we have put an extra focus on the team through events, courses, learnings, development plans, and more. We had our first yearly team event “ARR – Annual Recharge Retreat” – at Björkbacka events (highly recommended). 

We’ve put an extra focus on core consulting skills, making sure that everyone at Recuro has the right skills to tackle problem solving, client management, and more. 

We’re seen and heard!

During 2023, over 500 people have attended our events – both digitally and physically. We’ve held webinars, courses, client events and more. Thousands now subscribe to our weekly newsletters about subscription growth. 

In June, we held our first MRR – “Mighty Refreshment Rendezvous”. An exclusive event for our clients, partners and team. We’re looking forward to doing this again in 2024.

2024, next step in the direction of the tangent:

The journey from zero to where Recuro is today in four years has meant taking significant strides each year.  We’re really looking forward to continuing the journey in the upcoming year and embracing all the opportunities it has to offer. We sincerely appreciate the chance to move forward and grow, together with you.

We’re on a mission to make subscription business both easier and more enjoyable. If you ever have thoughts or questions, just shoot them our way. We’re here to share our knowledge and make the entire process of subscription growth as smooth as possible.

Next year, we’ll also be working hard to create even clearer and tailored offerings, while becoming more efficient in our deliveries. We aim to include our full range of expertise to provide you as a client with the very best solutions.
